EQUIPMENT AND TRAVEL INFORMATION
SUITABLY EQUIPPED & PREPARED
The key for our trip is to not pack too much! We will work closely with you to ensure you only bring what is required and what we have found to be the most suitable equipment for your trek.
Download the document below for all travel information and your comprehensive equipment list.
MEDICAL
DEDICATED HEALTH AND WELFARE SERVICE
Kokoda Crossing are one of the few trekking companies to bring a dedicated trek doctor or paramedic on your journey. We have a fully equipped medical backpack including a defibrillator and an extensive range of medicines to treat a wide range of ailments.
The advantage of having a trek doctor is we increase your chances of a successful completion, we can care for our porter team and respond to any emergency situations in the villages we journey through.
You will require a medical clearance from your doctor 8 weeks prior to your trek. Download the form below and take this to your appointment.
TRAINING SCHEDULE
A FULL PREPARATION
Professional preparation is the key at Kokoda Crossing. We don’t take clients who haven’t completed an adequate volume of training to safely complete the journey. You will enjoy the trip far more if you are not totally exhausted at the end of each day.
As part of your package you are welcome to join Travis for our organised training sessions in such locations as Kings Park and the beautiful Perth Hills. For those clients who are not Perth-based we will work closely with you to devise a suitable training regime based upon where you live and access to facilities.
SAFETY
WELFARE AND WELLBEING
Trekker safety is our highest priority at Kokoda Crossing. Having worked in high-risk environments around the world, Travis (ex-AFP) ensures all our activities are conducted in the safest possible manner.
Our porter team work hard to ensure your safety during our river crossings and slippery mountain descents.
We also have a close relationship with Travis’ ex-AFP colleague, Jason Fisher from Koda Consulting, who provides extensive risk & security services throughout Port Moresby and greater PNG.
PERSONAL PORTER
COMMISSION A CARRIER
Our recommendation is you engage the services of a local porter to carry your backpack for you. They will look after you every step of the way and we are bringing much needed employment to our local villagers. You will need to make the decision of engaging a porter before you embark on your journey as there is no help once we have left our starting point.
If you carry your own pack, the weight will around the 14-15kg mark when you include your water and electrolyte fluid. If you can comfortably train with this weight you should be ok for the trek.
ACCOMODATION
LAMANA HOTEL
